I Be Jammin’

I don’t know if it’s the time of year or just pure laziness, but I haven’t branched out from my usual breakfast joints in quite some time.

I broke my repetitive streak on Sunday with a fabulous brunch at Jam n’ Honey. The Lincoln Park restaurant earns instant points for placing Nutella on every table for easy access when buttering up your toast. The sunny restaurant’s décor was minimal and nondescript, but what it lacked in atmosphere was made up for with the food.

Starting with my favorite dish first, my friend and I split the South of the Border Burrito containing scrambled eggs, black beans, chorizo, sour cream, guacamole, pepper jack, and pico de gallo. The burrito encompassed all qualities that make a breakfast burrito a winner: it was tightly wrapped and easy to eat; the accoutrements such as the guacamole and sour cream were inside the burrito, yet they were cautious to not overload it with too much of any one ingredient. The perfect combination of all components made the burrito so flavorful and good. The House Potatoes that were served on the side were top-notch – extra crispy and mixed with diced onion and yellow pepper. The burrito is a must order!

We also shared two pancakes. One Oatmeal Pancake served with Lemon Blueberry Compote & Honey Vanilla Butter, and one Banana Nutella Pancake. Naturally drawn to all things chocolate, I was surprised by how much I liked the Oatmeal Pancake. The blueberry compote was refreshing and different, and wasn’t too sweet or too tart. The Banana Nutella Pancake was thankfully not as decadent and sugary as we had anticipated, but also less exciting.

Veering off of my brunch shortlist to try Jam N’ Honey was a success. I’ll definitely be back for the mouth-watering burrito, if not to try out their lunch or dinner menu!
