Grab A Bite

Last week was crazy! I had plans every night of the week, and then a friend came into town on Friday for the weekend. This time of year is so busy with holiday parties, shopping and travel – it’s no wonder that I’m just getting around to telling you about the fabulous meal I had last Wednesday at Bite Café.

This BYOB restaurant features an assortment of comfort foods with a gourmet twist. Open for brunch, dinner and late night bites, this genre is carried throughout all of their menu items. The quaint space with exposed brick, aqua blue chairs and a chalkboard, scrawled with daily specials, creates the ideal relaxed atmosphere.

We ordered an abundance of appetizers, from Mussels and Fries and Mom’s Mac and Cheese, to the Veggie Egg Rolls with Sweet and Spicy Plum Sauce. The mussels were dressed with a flavorful sauce created from leeks, garlic, shallots, bacon, smoked paprika, and white wine. The fries served alongside the mussels were a peculiar pairing, but I wasn’t complaining; they were crispy, piping hot, and perfectly seasoned, just how fries should be. The twosome was a satirical take on the usual fish and chips. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the mac and cheese either! Elbow noodles were engulfed in a creamy, mild cheese sauce, and then broiled to a crust on top.

For dinner I ordered the Parisian Gnocchi with seasonal vegetables, herb brown butter and Parmesan. The gnocchi were soft pillows of potato surrounded by an impressive amount of tasty veggies, like butternut squash, parsnip, tomato and cauliflower. This was the ultimate vegetarian dish!

Bite Café’s culinary talents translated to dessert as well. The Sundae of the Day was out of this world – Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream with Pumpkin Butterscotch, Candied Walnuts and Cinnamon Whipped Cream – what a combo! We also sampled the Fudge Brownie with Hazelnut Ice Cream, Chocolate Caramel and English Toffee, which was almost as good as the sundae. Both desserts were a sweet ending to a fun and delicious dinner.
