Knox Turns 1

It wasn’t until this year that I became a first time dog-owner. My husband is a dog-lover to the core, so after several years of talk and debate, we became parents to a King Charles Cavalier, Knox. To say that I’ve fallen head-over-heels in love with this little guy would be an understatement. As further proof of my affection, I made Knox homemade Pumpkin Dog Biscuits for his 1st birthday yesterday. I think it’s safe to say I’ve crossed the line from dog-lover to crazy-dog-lady. It’s ok, I’ve accepted it; its a small price to pay to watch our pup prance around the house carrying the treat in his mouth as if he’d won a prize. Happy Birthday Knoxy!

Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

What You Need

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 1/2 cups brown rice flour *

What To Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. In large bowl, whisk together eggs and pumpkin until smooth. Stir in dry milk, and sea salt. Add brown rice flour gradually, combining with spatula or hands to form a stiff, dry dough. Turn out onto lightly floured surface (can use the brown rice flour) and if dough is still rough, briefly knead and press to combine.
  3. Roll dough between 1/4 – 1/2″ – depending on your dog’s chew preferences. Use biscuit or other shape cutter to punch shapes, gathering and re-rolling scraps as you go.
  4. Place shapes on cookie sheet, no greasing or paper necessary. If desired, press fork pattern on biscuits before baking.
  5. Bake 20 minutes. Remove from oven and carefully turn biscuits over, then bake additional 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely on rack before feeding to dog.

Notes

*Brown rice flour gives the biscuits crunch and promotes better dog digestion. Many dogs have touchy stomachs or allergies, and do not tolerate wheat.
