The Last Hurrah

Not only was this past weekend one of the best weekends ever, it was also our last weekend as Chicago residents. Friday night we went to a really fun dinner with one of my best friend’s who flew in to participate in the send-off festivities. Saturday morning we went to the Green City Market, followed by a long walk and a boat ride on Lake Michigan. I enjoyed admiring the skyline from that perspective one last time.¬†

Saturday night our dear friends threw us a going away party. The party was a blast, and I’m so thankful that I got to see all of our friends and say good bye. We had a “Taste of Chicago” theme, which included some of the city’s notorious foods, as well as some of our favorites.

Lou Malnati’s deep dish pizza

Portillo’s hot dogs

Tacos from Cemitas Puebla

One of my friends brought¬†Garrett’s Chicago mix popcorn – cheddar and caramel corn

Another one of my friends surprised me with Cookie Dough Creations from Naperville. I’d been DYING to try it, and it was even more amazing than I had imagined. CDC offers egg-free raw cookie dough in an array of different flavors. I had a tough time staying away of the M&M flavor. If you’re ever in the burbs, do yourself a favor and stop by this indulgent spot!

The sweets did not stop there! Our party hosts surprised us with a spread of treats from our favorite bakery, and Chicago staple, Sweet Mandy B’s.

As if the party wasn’t enough of an eating fest, we rounded out our weekend with Sunday brunch with my relatives at Longman & Eagle. Then, last night our friend’s made us a ridiculous dinner of Steak Frites with red wine sauce, pesto, and creamed spinach. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t licking my plate.

I couldn’t have asked for a better last weekend!
