Hot Dog Bill
Did you watch the US Open golf tournament this weekend?
I personally did not…but my husband did.
The ESPN coverage informed viewers of Hot Dog Bill’s hamburgers shop located at the exclusive Olympic Club where the tournament was held. Bill’s hamburgers aren’t just any hamburger; they’re long and skinny and served on hot dog buns.
As a little background, Bill started flipping burgers in 1950 outside of the club. He used hot dog buns for the hot dogs and hamburgers so he didn’t have to buy two types of buns, and so the hot dog hamburger was born. Bill’s burgers were so popular that eventually he was invited inside the club to serve up his now famous burgers. To this day, Bill’s daughter is still carrying on what her father started.
After my husband saw these burgers, he knew exactly what we were having for Sunday night dinner.
We used my husbands burger recipe and shaped them into long thin patties and ate them just like Bill did, with ketchup, onions, pickles, and cheese.
As my husband made the burgers, I recorded his measurements.
He normally just throws in the ingredients, but for purposes of recreating, he agreed to more exact measurements!
Use a pan or any container that’s convenient to shape the burgers into long, thick patties.
Cook on a skillet or on a grill.
Just like Bill!
