I’ve previously mentioned that for the past three winters I’ve played dodge ball on Wednesday nights with the same co-ed group of friends. It’s so much fun running around the court like a crazy person trying to either throw, catch or dodge a ball. Our team, The Grenade Launchers, always has a great time, no matter win or lose.
On the way to our games, we pass El Tapatio Cafe, a corner restaurant illuminated by their red neon sign hanging out front. Each week we half-heartedly talk about trying the the Mexican restaurant, which we jokingly call The Patio (although El Tapatio actually refers to a person from Guadalajara).
Finally, last week I said “enough is enough, we’re trying El Tapatio before our game.” The food was just how Mexican food should be: authentic and classic. The large menu offered all the usual suspects, with the addition of some more creative dishes for those looking for a change. Per usual, I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas with Ranchero sauce. I was really eyeing the delicious-looking margaritas, but didn’t want to slow my reaction time down for dodge ball! The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was laid back and comfortable – perfect for a low-key meal anytime.
All these good things beg the question: why didn’t we try El Tapatio sooner?
