Whether I’m being surprised, or the one holding the secret, I love surprises.

This past weekend, six of us traveled to Columbus to surprise our friend for her 30th birthday. The suspense and excitement leading up to walking through her front door was almost as fun as the rest of the weekend.

Our friend’s incredibly thoughtful and creative husband flawlessly planned the birthday celebration, beginning with a fabulous dinner at Martini on Friday. We enjoyed calamari, succulent sea bass with lobster meat, and of course tasty martinis.

Saturday, fulfilling my friend’s joking birthday request for a monkey, a private tour of the Columbus Zoo was arranged for us. We had a great time observing the gorillas, and getting up close and personal with a Chilean Flamingo, Siberian Lynx, and Asian Bearcat.

The weekend concluded with a simple, yet tasty brunch at Tasi in the Short North neighborhood. We enjoyed tomato, spinach and mozzarella frittatas and cinnamon French toast.

My friend had a great birthday and we loved celebrating with her!
