Buckeye Style

This weekend was one of those weekends that I wished would never end. I traveled to Columbus, Ohio to spend the weekend with two of my college friends. Since they moved away from Chicago over two years ago, I cherish the weekends we get to spend together. My short trip was filled with many hours of talking and laughing; an Ohio State football game; relaxing; shopping; and of course, lots of eating. Below is a recap of my weekend in Columbus:

A walk through the Short North neighborhood lead us to North Market which features many specialty vendors. We indulged in sweet Belgian waffles from Taste of Belgium, as well as giant Bavarian-style soft Everything and Cinnamon Sugar flavored pretzels from Brezel.
Dinner Friday night at Figlios was a delight. I couldn’t get enough of the bread dipped in the olive oil infused with fresh rosemary and other Italian spices. The menu offered incredible pasta dishes that were unique to the restaurant. I loved the Spicy Tomato Pasta with blackened chicken, artichoke hearts, spinach, kalamata olives and feta. The Drunken Shrimp in Vodka Cream Sauce was equally as good.
Saturday before the football game we hit up Northstar for brunch. I was obsessed with my Mushroom Frittata which was loaded with roasted mushrooms, amazing caramelized onions, and rich gruyere cheese. The fresh biscuit that came with the meal was such a treat. The Cloud Nine Pancakes made with ricotta cheese weren’t too shabby either.
Our second night in Columbus was spent at Tucci’s, where we got our fill of inventive fish dishes: Grouper with caprese raviolis, artichoke hearts, lemon garlic broth, red oak leaves, grape tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and champagne vinaigrette. Also, Sesame Walleye with shrimp ceviche, tomato, lime, avocado, jasmine rice, with citrus-soy butter sauce.
Before it was time to say good-bye, one more meal…Turkey Reuben at Katzinger’s Deli, along with giant dill and garlic pickles.
