Spice Girls

This past Friday night, I went to Bombay Spice with a small group of girls.

The restaurant had received rave reviews from so many of my friends, so I couldn’t wait to try it myself. We had an awesome meal at the Indian restaurant described as “chef driven, contemporary, with a healthy twist”.

The menu is designed so you can create your own entrée by picking a grain, vegetables, meat and sauce. Every dish on the menu is touted to be 500 calories or less. Our waiter provided us with top-notch service by bringing us a taste of each sauce so we could make a guided decision when ordering.

We started our meal with the Grilled Chicken Tikka and the Samosas. We were captivated by the smell of the sizzling peppers and onions coming from the Grilled Chicken Tikka. The appetizer was very fresh and good, but also quite plain. The Samosas, which are typically fried, were hand tossed baked pastry puffs filled with seasoned potatoes and peas with tamarind sauce on the side. These were a delicious and healthier alternative to the samosas I’ve had in the past.

For our entrees a couple of us shared Quinoa, Shrimp, Zucchini and Cauliflower with Curry Sauce, as well as Brown Rice, Chicken and Broccoli with Masala Sauce. Both sauces were incredibly flavorful without being heavy or too intense. The shrimp and chicken were prepared to perfection – no chewy or dried out meats here. I loved both dishes and would absolutely order them both again.

If you’re feeling brave, order the Vindaloo sauce. My friend ordered it with tofu, broccoli and cauliflower and it was the spiciest thing I’ve ever tasted; however I did hear that some nights the sauce is spicier than other nights.

The food was noticeably lighter than Indian dishes I’ve had at other restaurants; this was definitely food you can feel good about. I already can’t wait to go back to Bombay Spice or try it for take-out!
