Give and Gain

Each year my company organizes a Give and Gain Day where all employees spend several hours volunteering for a chosen organization.

This year we donated our time to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

We learned that the GCFD has incredible reach and impact, donating 69 million pounds of food to hungry people in Chicagoland last year alone.

To do our part, we spent the morning scooping, weighing, bagging and boxing 2,100 pounds of Corn Flakes that will then be distributed to those in need.

As we approach the holiday season, which is so much about food and family, I can’t help but think about people who are less fortunate. This Give and Gain Day was just another reminder to be grateful for the food on my plate and the roof over my head. Not only did I have fun and feel good about the work we did, but I’m already looking toward what else I can do to help. This is just proof that when you give, you really do gain.

What are you doing to help those less fortunate this holiday season?
