This past weekend I was in Minneapolis for a friend’s wedding. We had such a wonderful time seeing friends and family, dancing into the night, and celebrating the lovely couple. In addition to the wedding festivities, I managed to squeeze in a meal at Yum Kitchen and Bakery, a favorite lunch spot when I’m in the Twin Cities.
The name says it all! The adorable counter-service restaurant offers a great mix of “yummy” options including buffalo chicken fingers, a tuna melt sandwich, fish tacos and the tempting macaroni and cheese. I had a classic but well-above-average Greek Salad to balance out the macaroni and cheese and French fries that we ordered for the table. The macaroni and cheese is made with my beloved cavatappi noodle and smothered in creamy cheddar cheese sauce, resembling a better version of Velveeta Shells & Cheese. The French fries, which are served with red pepper aioli and Cajun mayo for dipping, were recently named Best Fries by Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine. There is no doubt they deserved the recognition!
I can’t seem to leave without visiting the bakery side of Yum. Although the cupcakes and cakes are fabulous, I ended up with one of my all-time favorite desserts – chocolate covered rice crispy treats. It was peanut buttery and amazing!
